Hi there! I’m Jonathan, but you can call me Jon, JC, Coen, etc. Now before we go any further, I have a confession to make: I’m not really that dangerous. I just wanted to get your attention. Anyways, I live and work in Houston, TX with my wife and partner in crime, Kristina. We round things out with our house full of women (both the people kind and the furry kind). Together, we all work hard at being awesome. Sometimes, we actually succeed.
Other than the husband and daddy bits, I’m an occasional marathon runner, a reader, a news junkie,
a music enthusiast, a handyman, a
DIYer, an insomniac, and a collector of knowledge (both useful and useless). Once upon a time, I was in a couple different bands playing both
drums & bass. Now upon a time, I play guitar for my daughter while she randomly pushes buttons and turns knobs. My likes include peanut butter,
things that are cold, and going on tangents. My dislikes include humidity (yes, I’m aware of the fact that I live in Houston) and soft drinks that don’t have any caffeine.
Experiences & Things
Though I didn’t plan it this way, I’ve become a generalist of sorts. I know a thing or two about HTML, CSS, (plus a bunch of other development tools), graphic design, user experience, information architecture, animation, illustration, etc., that when combined with some good old fashioned elbow grease, make for a not so shabby website.
I’m very lucky in that I get to make a living doing what I love: I design, I create, and I code (but not always in that order). At the moment, I’m working as a Marketing Analyst for Reynolds & Reynolds. I’ve also been teaching Interactive Media classes at Lone Star College. Previously, I was a Multimedia Designer for Clear Channel University here in Houston and a Junior Designer for Enspire Learning in Austin. Before that, I was a double major grad at the University of Texas (BFA in Design, 2004 & BA in Studio Art , 2002).
Somewhere in between all of those things, I've done freelance work for quite a few clients across a fairly broad spectrum including web & user interface design, interactive content, animation, sound editing, video editing, ID systems, flyers, and mailers. Fun Facts
- My last name is pronounced with the syllables “co” & “in”. My parents made a trip to Amsterdam a few years ago where they found out that the family name is actually pronounced “coon” and that we’ve been saying it wrong for a few hundred years.
- I once stayed up for 67 hours straight on a diet of mostly Red Bull & bananas.
- A female elk chased me during mating season in Yellowstone Park.
- Nothing scares me more than boredom.
